We spent the day at Grandfather Mountain near Linville yesterday. Beautiful day to walk the “mile-high” bridge, spy a couple hawks, saunter a few trails and visit the wildlife habitat (cougars, bears, otters, eagles).
Then gave the opening presentation for “John Muir Day” to introduce Leigh Ann Henion, author of “Phenomenal.” Great fun to celebrate Muir, Wonder and the “heaven” of our Appalachian Grandfather.
“I couldn’t hold in, and began to jump about and sing and glory in it all … . There you stand in the face of all Heaven come down to earth.”
-John Muir, on Grandfather Mountain, Fall 1898 (quoted in “Son of the Wilderness”)
