Freethinking and Freedom

I often read the great orator, Robert Green Ingersoll, “devotionally”–with thoughtful delight.

This is another excellent line from him I came across again the other evening:

“I am not so much for the freedom of religion as I am for the religion of freedom.”

In the current “global warming” of hot, fanatical and frenzied faith, we would do well to reflect on this wisdom.

  1. I’m for Freedom spelled J-e-s-u-s; he came not to bring religion, he came bringing Life Abundant and Freedom! I left religion and Jesus found me with his Spirit and Fire and he has been transforming into greater and greater freedom all the time!

  2. I can remember those days when it was “Jesus and Me.” It’s like having your own Religion of You. Nice feeling. . .until I opened the door to see there was a wonderful world of free thinking and believing out there. Oh, and I remembered that Jesus taught us to think about others before ourselves.
