Independence

Scotland

Whether the People of Scotland vote this week to be fully Independent or part of the Union, there’s something in the blood that always calls us to independence, self-reliance, self-determination.

My ancestors were from the Highlands and my two travels there convinced me that my family homeland will always be Free, Freethinking and Unbelievably Beautiful.

I lift a dram of the Water of Life to the Good People of Scotland as they decide for themselves the future of that Great Land.

And, with pipers piping by the lochs, I hear the voice of Robert Burns:

“O sad and heavy, should I part, But for her sake so far away,

Unknowing what my way may thwart, My native land so far away.”
